About the Speaker:
Sam Yang is a third-generation investment banker with over 25 years of experience in the financial industry. He previously held senior positions at Morgan Stanley and Merrill Lynch, managing over USD 3 billion and focusing on venture capital, pre-IPO, and IPO investments across the Asia Pacific region. Currently, Sam manages his family's investment office, which includes the acquisition of TutorABC, the world's leading platform for online English and Chinese language learning.
In addition to his role at TutorABC, Sam serves as the CEO of his family's non-profit organization, The Yang Foundation. The Yang Foundation is dedicated to developing sport, education, and international exchange for students from Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe.
Sam is also a seasoned instructor. He has taught the CFA program for over 20 years and currently serves as the lead trainer for analyst training programs at UBS, Credit Suisse, and Julius Baer in Hong Kong and Singapore. He is a certified Franklin Covey trainer and specializes in the "7 Habits of Highly Effective People."
Personal Background:
Sam's family hails from Taiwan, though he was born in Los Angeles, attended boarding school in England, and is now based in Taipei. An avid sports enthusiast, Sam has played county cricket for Gloucestershire and county rugby for Somerset during his school years. He remains active in sports, particularly golf, and is a member of prestigious clubs such as the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC).
Education and Affiliations:
Sam holds a Master's in Entrepreneurship from Cambridge University, a Bachelor of Science in Finance from the City University of London, and is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA). He is also a member of the Young Presidents' Organization (YPO), where he serves as Chairman of the East-West Chapter, and a member of the Entrepreneurs' Organization (EO).
